DAVID HERCULES UP WITH THE BEST IN THE WEST
Another victory to WA's own David Hercules with a tough win over another great WA bred horse and millionaire in Has the Answers. This followed his fantastic effort the previous week in leading all the way over 2130m at a sensational 1:53.6. No wonder they couldn't catch him! David Hercules is a 6yo Westbred gelding by Artesian out of Golden Greek mare Like A Dame and is heading toward $700,000 in stake earnings. He was bred by Steve Johnson and is owned by David Botha and Jeneen Johnson and has been trained throughout his career by David Thompson. David Hercules has performed at the top level every year of his career and is just another example of how good our Westbreds are. Artesian, the sire of David Hercules, is a full brother to $1.9 million dollar earner Maltese Artist and was himself the winner of $878,000. He currently stands at stud in Victoria for a modest fee.
WA MARE CENTREFOLD ANGEL SHOWS HER WORTH TO WIN THE WASBA BREEDERS STAKES
WA bred and owned 6yo mare Centrefold Angel proved her worth once again with a strong win in the $40,000 WASBA Breeders Stakes. Driven by her trainer Kate Hawkins, daughter of Hall of Fame inductee and champion trainer and reinsman Fred Kersley, she finished strongly to overcome the grey Alkira Jetstar who put in a very meritorious effort to face the breeze and just get beaten in the last strides. Centrefold Angel’s mile rate was a terrific 1:55.2 over the 1730 metres. Centrefold Angel is by Legacy of Power (dec) out of unraced mare Twisted Art and was bred by her owner Colleen Lindsay who, with husband Trevor, runs Larkhill Vets. Centrefold Angel has now won over $237,000. Second and third place getters Alkira Jetstar, by Jet Laag out of Alkira Star, and Luck Has It, by Northern Luck (dec), are also Westbred mares. Congratulations to the connections of all three placegetters.

GLOUCESTER STANDARDBRED SALE 2013
The 2013 Sale was held on Sunday, 24th February 2013. WASBA on behalf of the Sale Company organised the Yearling Parade with assistance from the Standardbred Pleasure and Performance Horse Association. We thank the two Judges, Kristy Padburg and Heather Pow, who did an excellent job and also would like to thank Alan Parker who once again compared the Parade, and as usual did an excellent job. The sale itself was a huge improvement on the last couple of years with a clearance rate of 86%. There were originally 104 entries in the sale, 6 were withdrawn, 14 passed in and 83 sold for a total of $1,120,500.00 The overall average was $13,500 with the break-up being Fillies average $13,338.73 and colts $16,489.13 - Hopefully this successful sale will induce breeders to return their mares to the breeding barn.

WHAT IS THE DEFINITION OF "BREEDER"? The current definition of a breeder is in the Australian Harness Racing Stud Book regulations:
“Breeder”
a) In the case of a foal which is the result of an embryo transfer, the registered owner or lessee of the donor mare at the time the embryo is flushed from such donor mare and impregnated into a recipient mare.
b) In all other cases, the registered owner or lessee of the dam at the time of last date of service.
There is no “transfer” of a breeder.
For mares served after 1 September 2011 the above definition applies and a mare owner who does not have their paperwork in order will not be recorded as the breeder.
